NEWS // JUL 2014 // Kevin Chick has joined us as our new Director of Operations. With almost 20 years of management experience at multinational corporations and strong commitment to the Hartford community, we’re confident that Kevin will herald many exciting changes for our business.

NEWS // JUN 2014 // It’s CADC Awards Show time again! This year, we were proud to medal for our work with Benjamin Oliver Architecture Design and Hartford Marketing, Events & Cultural Affairs, and earn accolades for 6 additional clients with Excellence Awards. We’re also proud of Lorena for finishing her tour as CADC President…and Constanza for bringing the noise. We’re very fortunate to have a team and clients that care so much about the work we do together. The results speak for themselves.

NEWS // MAY 2014 // We love working with student leaders. Constanza and Melissa shared insights about social marketing and the power of empathy with SAAC Youth Conference participants. We hope they understand the power they have to make a real, positive difference in their communities. Remember: Every encounter is an opportunity.

NEWS // APR 2014 // There’s a lot of social entrepreneurship happening in Connecticut and we’re excited to support the movement. Rich and Melissa worked with reSET’s current Incubator cohort, presenting on value + branding and then mentoring the entrepreneurs on crafting their story. Rich also served as a judge for the CT Mirror’s hackathon, held as part of its first-ever conference, Small State, Big Debate: Inequality.

NEWS // MAR 2014 // Encore! Rich and Melissa presented Thinking Through Your Brand Experience (version 2.0) to a diverse group of nonprofit professionals in western Connecticut. As always, we appreciate working with CT Nonprofits to help fantastic organizations reflect on how to share their story in meaningful and motivating ways.

NEWS // FEB 2014 // Rich got some love from West Hartford Life. The article nicely sums up his worldview and our approach to meaningful design. Good word: Award-winning design firm helps social causes.

NEWS // OCT 2013 // Creative Bloq asked Rich to reflect on ways to get involved in socially responsible design. In The designer’s guide to working for nonprofits, Rich talks about the mindset designers need to bring to the collaboration in order to have a meaningful impact.

NEWS // SEP 2013 // This was a month of fun media for CO:LAB. Rich was featured in Creative Arts (UK) in the article, Good design for good reasons, and Constanza was a guest on WNPR to talk about the value of doodling and live doodle the show! 

NEWS // AUG 2013 // Rich gave an inspiring talk at TEDxBushnellPark entitled, Why / Change / Hope / Now+ where he talks about CO:LAB’s transformation as a business and how we support community development.

NEWS // JUL 2013 // We’re very excited to share that Melissa has been named to the Hartford Business Journal’s 40 Under Forty. It’s a great piece of recognition for her leadership and vision. Congrats, Melissa!

NEWS // JUN 2013 // We had quite a night at the CADC Awards Show. Our video for M.A.D.E. in Madison won Best in Show! The Montessori School of Greater Hartford brand won Silver and Judges’ Awards, our work with Flagg Road UCC and Partners in Community took home Gold, and Middletown Youth Services won a Silver. Also recognized with excellence awards were Sustainable Farm School, ERASE and Billings Forge. We couldn’t be prouder of our team or more grateful to have such amazing clients. Go CO:LAB!

NEWS // MAY 2013 // Thinking about a web site redesign? Troy and Melissa presented Developing Engaging Web Experiences at the Connecticut Association of Nonprofits’ Marketing Jamboree. The handout provides a great roadmap for developing a clear plan, compelling content and design that connects.

NEWS // APR 2013 // It was Troy’s turn to hit the airwaves on Where We Live, WNPR. He was in the studio to talk about The Meaning of Logos, Brands, and Identities. As always with Troy, the conversation was very thoughtful and thought provoking. Way to represent, Troy!

NEWS // MAR 2013 // Constanza was one of the “creative experts” assembled to chat with a group of high school students from Watkinson School in Hartford about living a creative life and turning it into a successful career. Let’s get creative, WNPR.

NEWS // JAN 2013 // Rich has been recognized by FastCompany as one of The 11 Most Generous Designers! He is in some amazing company and the honor is well deserved. His feature article, This Design Firm Only Works On Projects That Give Back,  has some truly sage perspective. For example… “When a community can see and empathize with where it is, while simultaneously visualizing its opportunities, real change can be catalyzed.” Boom. We couldn’t be prouder of our founder and owner. Thanks for being a constant source of inspiration and for bringing us along on this daring ride.

NEWS // OCT 2012 // Leading up to his talk at AIGA GAIN, Rich shares about how “being helpful” shaped the evolution of our business on AIGA Connecticut Design Speaks. It’s less than 0:30 and really worth the listen. There’s some soul-searching dialogue that’s relevant to everyone.

NEWS // JUL 2012 // Our community involvement continues: Lorena is the new President of Connecticut Art Directors Club; Constanza reprises her role for another two years as Education Director of AIGA Connecticut; Rich is named Vice Chair and Development Chair of Compass Youth Collaborative; Troy continued his work with Middletown's North End Action Team (NEAT) and the We Are Us initiative.

NEWS // JUN 2012 // We love being helpful: Rich and Melissa talked about how brand development drives fund development at the TANGO Best Practices for Nonprofits Conference, and Melissa spoke with the Lower Fairfield County Regional Action Council about creating community engagement through branding.

NEWS // MAY 2012 // Constanza was a panelist and judge at the Select All student design conference and competition at Roger Williams University. She also lent support to HART ’s community conversation about the purpose of education. Oh--and in her spare time, she illustrated a well-known Mug on a Mug for WNPR’s “Where We Live”.

NEWS // APR 2012 // CO:LAB is on the air waves and the big stage. Constanza participated in a great conversation on WNPR’s “Where We Live” about GOOD Ideas for Cities and how design can help solve urban problems. It was also announced that Rich will be hitting the main stage at the AIGA Design for Social Value GAIN Conference in San Francisco, October 9-10. This is what CO:LAB is all about and we're delighted to be part of these discussions.

NEWS // MAR 2012 // Welcome to the newest member of CO:LAB. Lorena Iturrino joins us as a senior designer, bringing tremendous insight, talent, leadership and levity to our team.

NEWS // FEB 2012 // AIGA has deployed a new Design for Good strategy. A key component of this direction shapes the conversation through insightful social impact case studies from around the world. Our work with Middletown Youth Services Bureau is one of the initial features.

NEWS // DEC 2011 // On the heels of our brand development presentation at the Connecticut Association of Nonprofits’ Conference, our entire team will be conducting a half-day workshop on brand alignment and collaboration at the Center for Nonprofit Excellence. We hope to see you there.

NEWS // OCT 2011 // AIGA launched its Design For Good initiative at the Pivot Conference in Arizona. CO:LAB was featured in the manifesto video discussing design for good and why it matters. We also have an article on AIGA’s website with tips on doing work for good. We’re honored to be a part of this initiative.

NEWS // JUN 2011 // Give a dog a bone…or four. CO:LAB took home an astonishing four awards from the AIGA Best of New England (BoNE) Show 2011. The folks at core77 did a nice recap of the event and the problem-solving work it celebrated.
