Rich has been working on the AIGIA Design for Democracy initiative: Building Community Power. You can read what he has to say about the intersection of community engagement, civic engagement, power, and design in this interview with Design Observer, with Brian Miller of Nonprofit VOTE, moderated by Laetitia Wolff of AIGA: designobserver.com/feature/design-for-democracy-building-community-power/39827

He also spoke on a panel at NASDAQ on the initiative. Here’s a highlight that an audience member captured from when he spoke: “Low-voting communities want to be able to envision themselves as having influence over how they live their lives on a daily basis. We need to make this abstraction of ‘voting’ relevant to what tomorrow’s going to look like for them when they wake up in the morning. Design can help us get embedded in these communities.”
