SCOVILLE MEMORIAL LIBRARY IDENTITY

Scoville Memorial Library is the country’s first public library. With that scale of iconic meaning, the building itself truly matters. We’ve seen a lot of identities for museums and historic sites that rely on a rendering of the physical structure for a visual anchor—it became a kind of cliché that we avoided. But this one time, we dove in. We rendered the building in rough calligraphy to indicate the turreted roofline, historic clock, and even the mature clipped hedges. The whimsical logo is at once a nod to the history of the institution and a reminder that this is more than a perfectly rendered static building—it’s a place where great ideas can take shape.
