From the start of our journey working for social impact, the plan has been to figure out how to contribute to more and more impact. The goal was to start to break the code in one location and see if and how we can systematize change to effect the very systems designed to suppress it. The goal has always been to go deep first and then wide. That’s how you figure out what’s really going on—that’s where the learning happens. Next week, I’ll be announcing how we are working on a model for going deeper in community. Today, I’m excited to announce a major step in going wide.
Over the past few months we’ve been taking steps to blend our “Local First” vision with others who share a passion and connection to their community. We are delighted to share that CO:LAB Dallas is a go. And, even more exciting—this team will be lead by my dear friend and trusted colleague, Frances Yllana. If you don’t know Frances, you can learn a fraction about her here. What the bio doesn’t capture is the size of her fire, visionary intelligence, humility, candor, and power like you’ve never seen.
When I take a look at the folks who make up CO:LAB today—well, let’s put it this way: I sit in my office at almost 3AM not really working, but rather, just pacing around saying “Wow,” under my breath.
“More to come” is an understatement.
